We are currently looking for an Intermediate Land Use Planner to join our team in our Hamilton office. This is a permanent full-time position to begin as soon as the successful candidate is found.
Experience
-
Working knowledge of the Planning Act, Provincial Policy Statement, Growth Plan, Niagara Escarpment Plan, Greenbelt Plan, municipal Official Plans and Zoning or Development Permit By-Laws is required

Previous experience preparing Planning Act applications for Consent, Minor Variance, Zoning By-Law Amendments (Rezoning), Official Plan Amendments, Plan of Subdivision/Condominium and Site Plan Control is required

Experience with conducting Public Information Consultation (PIC), or presentations to Committee of Adjustment or municipal city council in support of Planning Act applications would be considered an asset

Well-developed verbal and written communication skills as well as analysis and negotiation skills is a must.

Liaising with other professionals, local municipalities, and government agencies concerning planning and development submissions will be a regular occurrence

Must have prior experience drafting and reviewing Planning Justification Reports

Urban Design experience is a significant asset
Qualifications

University degree in Urban and Regional Planning or planning related degree is required

Full Membership with the Ontario Professional Planners Institute (OPPI) is preferred; eligibility for full membership with OPPI within 2 years is required at a minimum

Minimum 3-5 years of responsible, relevant experience in land use planning and development, either in the private sector or at the municipal level

Strong written communication and research skills are minimum requirements to assist in the preparation of Planning Justification Reports and Urban Design Briefs, assist in the preparation for Local Planning Appeal Tribunal (LPAT) hearings with senior planners, and the preparation and submission of various application packages and supporting documentation

Ability to liaison with and build Client relations is required

Working knowledge of AutoCAD and other design applications is an asset

Ability to creatively handle a variety of complex issues having physical, economic, environmental, and social dimensions

Time management, team development, analytical thinking, and research skills

Class “G” driver’s license is required
